Featuring Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Davido, Guru, and 4X4 among others, it is being organized by telecommunications company Tigo in collaboration with global, Music on Demand platform, Deezer.
It is free-ticketed, and tagged – Unplugged – a one-night-only celebration of music.
The concert is to kick off a major music streaming partnership between Tigo, and Deezer, in Ghana.
Tigo is hoping to launch Tigo Music, its streaming offering across 5 countries in Africa including Ghana.
The partnership, launched in Accra some weeks ago, will see Tigo benefiting from Deezer’s 16 million active monthly users, 5 million subscribers and a catalogue of over 35 million tracks.
“There is a huge appetite for music in Africa and people increasingly want to choose where, when and to what they listen,” says Arthur Bastings, Millicom’s Executive Vice-President for Africa.
Deezer is a big player in the Music on Demand ecosystem.
“We are excited to be extending our partnership with Millicom and look forward to bringing our service to Tigo Music customers in Africa. The service will use Deezer’s personalised human recommendations and smart algorithm to give customers access to our 35 million track strong library on its mobile platform,” Cédric Diedrich, Head of Telecom Business Development at Deezer, says.
Smartphone penetration is expected to grow by some 30 percent annually in the next five years, and Tigo is hoping to cash in big.
